Democrats Block for the Fifth Time a Plan to Stop Biden from Ending Title 42 at the Border

For the fifth time in a year, House Democrats have stopped a plan that would stop President Joe Biden from ending the CDC's Title 42 authority at the US-Mexico border. This authority has helped stop waves of illegal immigration for over two years.

In April, CDC officials said that the Biden administration would end Title 42 authority at the southern border by May 23. The power lets Border Patrol agents send illegal immigrants back to Mexico quickly after they cross the border. It was first given to them by former President Trump in March 2020.

But last month, Judge Robert R. Summerhays, who was appointed by Trump, told Biden to keep Title 42 in place while the issue goes through the federal courts.

Rep. Yvette Herrell (R-NM) introduced the PAUSE Act, which would stop Biden from ending the authority at the border until all advisories and emergencies about the Chinese coronavirus are lifted by the federal government. This would protect Title 42.

Wednesday was the fifth time that 215 Democrats in the House stopped the PAUSE Act to save Title 42 from being considered. In June and July of 2021 and twice in April of this year, Democrats stopped the bill from being discussed in the House.

Rep. Mayra Flores (R-TX) said on the House floor, "Dangerous drugs are pouring across the border. Eighty percent of the fentanyl that kills Americans comes in through the southern border." She was asking Democrats to stop blocking the legislation.

Flores was sworn into Congress on Tuesday. She won a historic election in south Texas, where she took over a district that had been held by Democrats for a long time. Flores is the first woman born in Mexico to serve in Congress.

Recently, a number of Republicans have suggested that Title 42 be used at the border to fight the deadly fentanyl epidemic instead of the coronavirus.

"More than 100,000 Americans died of drug overdoses last year, mostly from fentanyl. These deaths are more like those caused by the Chinese Communist Party... "Title 42 is a must if we want to fight this drug epidemic," said Hagerty.

Without Title 42, Biden officials say that up to 500,000 illegal immigrants and people who cross the border without permission — about the same number of people who live in Atlanta, Georgia — could come to the border every month.

Rep. Andy Biggs (R-AZ) told Breitbart News that without Title 42, he would expect 30,000 illegal immigrants and people crossing the border every day. Breitbart News has said that up to 6,000 foreigners are waiting in Tijuana, Mexico, to rush the border as soon as Title 42 is over.

The Biden administration's plan to end Title 42, which was reported and published by Breitbart News, includes "large-scale release mechanisms" that turn the border into a simple checkpoint for the foreigners who arrive every day.
