Mets-Brewers postponed after long rain delay

After a two-and-a-half-hour rain delay, the Mets’ game against the Brewers Tuesday night at Citi Field was postponed.

After a two-and-a-half-hour rain delay, the Mets’ game against the Brewers Tuesday night at Citi Field was postponed. The teams will play a split doubleheader Wednesday beginning at 2:10 p.m.

Owner Steve Cohen had tweeted earlier in the delay that the Mets were going to play, but the rain would not relent to allow Jacob deGrom to make his penultimate start before the All-Star break.

“We tried but weather didn’t cooperate,” Cohen tweeted. “I can control some things but that isn’t one of them.”

Shortly after 9 p.m., the grounds crew had begun to squeegee water off the tarp as the rain began to let up, but soon it began to pour again, leading to the game officially being called.
