The Single-A Palm Beach Cardinals didn’t have much on the field Thursday night. Their Twitter account, however, did strong work.
Facing Jacob deGrom and the Mets’ Single-A affiliate, Port St. Lucie, Palm Beach had a rough night in a 7-0 loss. They managed just two hits in the game. None of those came against deGrom, who struck out eight in three hitless innings.
But at least they had a sense of humor about it.
“Jacob deGrom is throwing 102 MPH… Someone send help,” Palm Beach tweeted early on.
After the game, the account wrote: “Oh, so NOW the Mets give Jacob deGrom run support…#BeachBirds,” a reference to the lack of support the major league Mets normally give deGrom.
The Mets had some fun with it, too.
“We’ll take him back now. Sorry for any inconvenience,” they wrote, with a laughing emoji.
