ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — The Yankees traded infielder Thairo Estrada to the Giants for cash considerations. Estrada was designated for assignment to make room for Rougned Odor on the 40-man roster following his trade from the Rangers.
Odor made his first start for the Yankees Sunday, playing second base.
The 27-year-old had to shave his distinctive beard as part of the Yankees’ policy and said it “was weird.”
Odor said his 3-year-old daughter “doesn’t even want to look at me.”
Of more pressing concern is whether Odor will be able to fill in at third base, where he’s never played in a game — although he worked there extensively during the spring.
He said the biggest challenge was the different angle of the throw, which forced him to alter his footwork.
