Rougned Odor is on his way to the Yankees.
The Yankees traded a pair of minor leaguers for the 27-year-old infielder on Tuesday. Odor was designated for assignment by the Rangers before Opening Day and has two years and $27 remaining on his contract, with Texas expected to pick up much of it. The Yankees sent outfielders Antonio Cabello and Josh Stowers to the Rangers.
It’s unclear what role the lefty-swinging Odor will fill in The Bronx. He’s only played second base in the majors — and not especially well of late — and his offensive production has plummeted in recent years.
Odor signed a six-year, $49.5 million extension four years ago, but he doesn’t get on base much — although he has shown power, hitting 30 homers three times, most recently in 2019.
