TAMPA — Aaron Boone and his “new buddy” are back with the Yankees.

Three days removed from having a pacemaker inserted, Boone returned to the team facility on Saturday morning and was set to manage the Yankees’ exhibition against the Pirates in Bradenton at 1 p.m.

“It was a nice surprise,” Gerrit Cole said after throwing a live batting practice session. “Good to see him back and feeling good.”

Boone, 47, had left the team on Wednesday to undergo the procedure at a local hospital to address a low heart rate that was making him feel lightheaded and sluggish. He said Friday he couldn’t believe how good he was feeling and was not facing any restrictions, other than lifting his left arm above his head because of the incision near his heart.

“A couple days in now, me and my buddy are doing quite well,” Boone said Friday of his pacemaker.
