One Day at a Time star Isabella Gomez is going back to school as the lead in HBO Max's Head of the Class reboot pilot. Only, she won't be a student. Instead, she's on her way to the head of the class (literally) as first time teacher Alicia Adams.

Reps for the network and Gomez have confirmed the casting news to EW, which was first announced by Deadline. Alicia is described as "whip-smart, funny, blunt high school teacher," who thought she had it all figured out when she was in school. As a new teacher, she'll learn what she really wants out of life.

The original Head of the Class told the story of history professor, Charlie Moore (Howard Hesseman) and the gifted students he taught at Millard Fillmore High School in Manhattan. The series aired on ABC from 1986 to 1991, though Hesseman departed in 1990 and was replaced by Billy Connolly.

So far, the network has ordered a pilot and five additional scripts for the reboot.

The news comes after it was announced Tuesday that One Day at a Time has been canceled by ViacomCBS.
