Second ‘Aunt Viv’ Daphne Reid sees ‘growth’ in Will Smith as star ends feud with Janet Hubert

Reid called their reconciliation a "growth of spirit" for Smith.

Daphne Maxwell Reid, best known for playing the second Aunt Vivian on 90s sitcom “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air,” is overjoyed with the “growth” she’s seen in co-star Will Smith and original Aunt Vivian, Janet Hubert, as the two recently squashed a 27-year-long feud stemming from Hubert’s exit from the show.

“She is a woman that I honor for having started this wonderful show, so all I could do was treat her like I would treat anybody when I first met them, and mostly with a big hug,” she told TMZ of her time spent with Hubert during the show’s reunion, currently airing on HBO Max.

Reid added that she never even knew there was friction between Smith and Hubert until years after the series ended in 1996.

“They never spoke about it, I never knew about it, all I knew is what social media was saying, and I didn’t know her, so I didn’t pay any attention to that.”

She went on to call their reconciliation a “growth of spirit” for Smith, who was just 21 years old when the lengthy-feud began.

“To be able to say, ‘yeah, I didn’t know, and I’m sorry,’ and for her to be able to say, ‘yeah, we were mean to each other through the press, and I’m sorry.’ To see that was the best part of the reunion for me.”
