Nicolas Cage’s martial arts moves in new movie are the real deal

Director Dimitri Logothetis says Cage "knew an awful lot and did a lot of moves on-camera that were his own."

The director of Nicolas Cage’s new martial-arts movie, “Jiu Jitsu,” says the actor knows what he’s doing.

“Nic is trained in jujitsu,” Dimitri Logothetis told Page Six. “He knew an awful lot and did a lot of moves on-camera that were his own that my stunt coordinators laid out.” But he adds, “We didn’t let him do the dangerous stuff.”

Logothetis said Cage “worked on the choreography for about a week. Because he had already trained and was in very good shape, he could step into the beginning of a sequence and the end,” with the middle being done by stunt doubles.

In the flick, out Friday, Cage heads “an ancient order of jujitsu fighters.”
