Meryl Streep’s nephew was busted in East Hampton on Thursday in an alleged road rage incident that left the victim requiring emergency surgery for a head injury, police said.

Charles Harrison Streep, 31, is accused of assaulting the victim in the parking lot of a Chase Bank on Main Street on Monday, causing “serious head trauma,” East Hampton Village Police said in a press release.

The victim wasn’t identified, but local outlets, including The Independent, said he is an 18-year-old from nearby Springs who was driving a Ford sedan.

The victim had just pulled off Main Street into the Circle, which leads to the Chase parking lot, as Streep, in an Audi convertible, was pulling out around 11:30 a.m., Lieutenant Gregory Brown told The Independent.

Several 911 calls came in about the alleged assault but Streep was allegedly nowhere to be found when police arrived at the scene.

Streep was arrested Thursday morning at a house on Pondview Lane in East Hampton and charged with felony counts of second-degree assault and second-degree strangulation. He was arraigned and released on $5,000 bail, police said.

The victim initially refused medical treatment but requested medical assistance a little while later, Brown said. He was airlifted from Stony Brook Southampton Hospital to Stony Brook University Hospital for surgery around 2:30 p.m. Monday.

Streep is a 2007 graduate of New Canaan High School in Connecticut and the son of Mary Streep and Dana Streep, who is Meryl Streep’s brother. He also played lacrosse for the University of Virginia, according to the school’s website.

A lawyer for Charles Streep, who lives in Manhattan, didn’t immediately return messages. Neither did reps for his famous aunt, the most Oscar-nominated actor of all time.
