Well, that happened fast.

Earl Thomas’ time in Baltimore is over.

The seven-time Pro Bowl safety was cut by the Ravens on Sunday in the wake of his practice scuffle with fellow safety Chuck Clark on Friday in which he reportedly punched Clark. The Cowboys, who sought former Jets safety Jamal Adams, are the favorite to land him, according to ESPN. The Ravens said the reason for Thomas’ release was “for personal conduct that has adversely affected the Baltimore Ravens,” meaning they’re likely to pursue recouping money on Thomas’ four-year, $55 million contract.

“I appreciate the Ravens organization for the opportunity. Had a great run,” Thomas wrote on his Instagram story after being released. “Wish things would have ended different but you live and you learn. Thank you Eric DeCosta and everyone else who played a role in bringing me to B-More. Wish you guys the best.”

The Ravens players’ “Leadership Council made it clear to decision makers they would prefer Thomas not be around,” according to CBS. While Thomas, 31, was in the second year of the contract.

Thomas attempted to clear the air by posting the clip of the play on Instagram and addressing it in a statement. He wrote that he committed a mental error and was trying to calmly explain to Clark what happened when “built up aggression turned into me getting into with a teammate.”

“Being sent home sucks. I can’t take the reps I need to keep momentum going. but I can reflect on things and keep working [on] my plan to help the team win…” Thomas wrote in a since-deleted post. “This has been one of my best camps. [It’s] crazy a situation like this can [throw] dirt on it.. …Since we didn’t keep it in house and I’m getting text and calls from ESPN reporters etc [I] thought I’d try and clear the air … situations like this narrow my window for error but this [is] the path I choose.”

A former star for the Seahawks, Thomas has had issues with a teammate in Baltimore before. Last season, he got into a “heated talk” with nose tackle Brandon Williams following a 40-25 loss to the Browns because he was frustrated Williams was inactive for the game due to injury. Thomas later said the two cleared the air.

His latest incident is coming off a hectic offseason for the veteran, who was allegedly held at gunpoint by his wife after he was caught having an affair with another woman.
