A same-sex couple is making waves on social media for hyping a donor sperm giveaway on their Instagram.

Nova Scotia wives Allie Conway and Sam Kwiatkowski posted a photo announcing their partnership with Fairfax Cryobank three days ago, giving their 201,000 followers the chance to win “credit for [one] vial of donor sperm (of your choice).” The prize also includes free shipping.

To enter, fans must follow both the sperm bank and the influencers, who go by @allieandsam on Instagram, like the post and tag “as many friends as you want” in the comments.

A winner will be selected on Aug. 20. So far, the post has more than 14,000 likes and close to 9,000 comments.

“We are so, so excited to be partnering with @fairfaxcryobank to (hopefully!) help one of you grow your family!” the travel bloggers, who have been married since last year, captioned the post.

In the comments, many posters were excited at the chance to win some swimmers.

“We just started our IVF process,” wrote one fan. “This would be a dream / big time saving in the already huge bill 😂❤️ thank you for the opportunity ladies !”

“This could be our dream come true!!!!,” commented another. But when screenshots of the giveaway were posted to Twitter, social-media users there took a different tone.

“Imagine telling a child that they came from an instagram giveaway,” wrote one Twitter user, though in a separate post they clarified that they were “commenting on the absolutely wild nature of doing [sponsored content] for a sperm bank,” and not sending hate to the couple.

“Do they care what I do with it or” joked internet personality Tyler Oakley.

“This is one of the funniest things I’ve seen social media used for ever, in my entire life, and I feel like no one’s appreciating the pure divine comedy that is an INSTAGRAM GIVEAWAY RESULTING IN NEW HUMAN LIFE,” wrote another tweeter.

But the tides changed again, with many responding about the realities of fertility treatment.

“Sperm is expensive. And you don’t get to judge how people start a family,” said one user, defending those who wanted to partake in the giveaway.

A single vial of sperm from Fairfax costs between $650 and $1,050, according to their website. Receiving information about the donor can also prune your pocket. There are also lab fees, such as transfer costs, “washing” of the specimen and analysis. Though many called out the “free shipping” part of the prize, it’s no laughing matter: Shipping can cost up to $305 per container, and can possibly double if the sperm is being sent to another continent.
