Al Roker is in recovery after undergoing a total shoulder replacement surgery.

“And scene! I’m out of surgery and recovery. Thanks for all the good wishes and prayers,” Roker, 65, captioned an Instagram post on Wednesday afternoon.

He added in a video that his surgery was a success and that the next step for him will be to start physical therapy. He then thanked fans again for all the well-wishes.

This week, Roker announced that he would be taking a break from the “Today” show in order to have the surgery, which was done by orthopedic surgeon Dr. Riley J. Williams III at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York.

The weather forecaster opened up about the severe discomfort he was experiencing in his right shoulder, saying, “The deal is, I guess I’ve got an arthritic shoulder, and right now it’s not so bad, but it’s gotten to the point where I can’t even sleep at night.”

He added, “It’s not bad during the day, but at night, it’s an intense pain that literally wakes me up. And for the last month, I’ve only been sleeping about two or three hours a night, which even for me, is a little bit less.”

Roker is no stranger to this type of procedure. Last year he underwent hip replacement surgery, and in 2014 he had surgery to repair a rotator cuff in his left shoulder.
