Add Yankees third-base coach Phil Nevin to the growing list of Angel Hernandez critics.
A visibly heated Nevin was ejected during the first half of Wednesday’s doubleheader 11-7 loss to the Phillies after arguing a called third-strike on Yankees first baseman Mike Ford.
The pitch, thrown by Phillies pitcher Trevor Kelley, appeared to be inside.
“That’s f–king bulls–t,” Nevin could be heard screaming on the telecast as he pointed at Hernandez, the home-plate umpire. “And you f–king know it.”

The Yankees were in the middle of a seventh-inning rally at the time of the strikeout but came up short.
Nevin’s words were largely audible because there weren’t any fans in the Phillies’ ballpark because of coronavirus restrictions.
It was the second time Nevin has been thrown out as third-base coach. The last time came in 2018 in Boston during a bench-clearing incident. He was ejected 12 times as a player.
Nevin returned for the nightcap. while Hernandez did not work the second game as scheduled.
Hernandez, labelled “as bad as there is” by Pedro Martinez in 2018, has had a history of questionable calls throughout his career.
In 2013, Chipper Jones tweeted “I will not watch a game, any game, officiated by Angel Hernandez! His incompetence amazes me and I’m tired of MLB not doing squat about it!”
Hernandez previously tangled with former Yankee CC Sabathia after making several questionable calls in the 2018 ALCS.
“I need to say this… I don’t think Angel Hernandez should be umping playoff games,” Sabathia said at the time. “He’s absolutely terrible. He was terrible behind the plate today. He was terrible at first base. It’s amazing how he’s getting a job umpiring in these playoff games.”
Nevin’s outburst likely will remind Yankees fans of manager Aaron Boone’s famous “savages” rant last year when he was ejected by umpire Brennan Miller during a 6-2 win over the Rays.
This time, it was a level-headed Boone escorting Levin away to the clubhouse.
