Rangers will quickly find out their NHL Draft fate

The day before they could have been starting the next round of the Stanley Cup playoffs, the Rangers will find out if they received a huge silver lining instead.

The second phase of the NHL Draft Lottery is now set for 6 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 10, with the No. 1 pick still up for grabs.

The Rangers, who were swept by the Hurricanes, and seven other teams who lose in the Stanley Cup qualifiers will each have a 12.5 percent chance of landing the No. 1 pick. It did not go to any of the seven teams that missed the postseason altogether in the first phase of the draft lottery. Canadian winger Alexis Lafreniere is widely expected to go first overall.

The seven teams that do not win the first pick will be placed in picks No. 9-15 in reverse order of their regular-season points percentage. Picks No. 2-8 were already determined during the first phase of the lottery in June.
