It was another rough night for Gary Sanchez, who struck out two more times and was hit by a pitch on the left elbow during the Yankees’ 3-1 win over the Phillies on Wednesday night in the second half of a doubleheader.
Manager Aaron Boone said Sanchez might be affected by the hit to the elbow for a day or two and added the catcher’s timing is still off, as he’s mired in a slump that’s left him 2-for-27 with 16 strikeouts.
But Boone said Sanchez’s solid work behind the plate leaves him convinced the slump isn’t getting to Sanchez mentally.
Sanchez did hit Luis Avilan with a low throw trying to get Bryce Harper on a stolen base in the bottom of the second of the second game.
