The son of former Rangers’ star defenseman Barry Beck was fatally stabbed over the weekend, according to Hamilton, Ontario police.
Police responded to reports of a disturbance around 2 a.m. Sunday in nearby Binbrook, Ontario, where officers found the 20-year-old Brock Beck and an unidentified 16-year-old injured.
Beck was later pronounced dead at a hospital while the 16-year-old has since been released from medical care.
The suspects were believed to have been driving “closely” behind Beck before they confronted Beck and the teenager in a driveway, police said.
No arrests have been made and police said they haven’t uncovered a motive for the killing.
It’s unclear how many people were involved in the incident.
“Why would someone stab him multiple times if not to kill him,” Barry Beck wrote on Facebook. “May god have mercy upon the assailants souls and may detectives find them before I do!”
Beck was studying mental health at a Canadian college, according to a report.
His father, a hard-hitting defenseman drafted second overall by the Colorado Rockies in 1977, spent seven seasons (1979-86) with the Rangers and was the team’s captain for six of them.
