Padma Lakshmi has sampled countless dishes throughout her 16-season run as host of “Top Chef,” often consuming over 7,000 to 8,000 calories daily during filming.

“Those chefs are cooking to win, so they’re putting in as much lard and butter and salt as they can,” Lakshmi recently told Women’s Health of the Bravo series where, at the beginning of a season, she will sometimes judge over 30 plates per episode.

With a family history of diabetes, 49-year-old Lakshmi is mindful of her health. Before and after a season of “Top Chef,” a doctor will check her blood work and weight. The cookbook author has also been prescribed a preventative medication that regulates blood sugar levels.

When she isn’t shooting the Emmy-winning series, Lakshmi keeps herself in check with a regimen of 90-minute workouts and jumping rope for cardio. She also credits Pilates for transforming her body.

“I started going to Pilates a few years ago, because my chiropractor recommended it for my back,” Lakshmi said.

Diagnosed with scoliosis at the age of 13, Lakshmi said Pilates has strengthened her in places she “didn’t know [she] needed to be.”

“I have a butt now that I didn’t have during my modeling career!” she said.

Though Lakshmi tries to maintain a balanced diet when off from “Top Chef,” she enjoys the occasional “nacho night” with her 10-year-old daughter Krishna.

“I have midnight nacho night with Krishna probably once or twice a week,” Lakshmi said.
