Mark Hamill, 68, will play a country singer in Darren Criss’ upcoming Quibi show “Royalties” — and he will have a song on its soundtrack. The series, premiering June 1, is a 10-episode comedy about Pierce (Criss), a songwriter for hire.
According to Variety, Republic Records will release the first three songs from the show, which will also feature performances by “To All The Boys: P.S. I Still Love You” star Jordan Fisher, Julianne Hough, Lil Rel Howery, Jackie Tohn, Bonnie McKee, Jennifer Coolidge, Rufus Wainwright, Sabrina Carpenter and Hamill, who will sing a tune called “Mighty as Kong.”
While Hamill is a celebrated voice actor — most notably lending his pipes to the dastardly Joker in “Batman: The Animated Series” (1992-1994) — he’s not particularly known for his crooning. He’s done jokey performances such as singing in German in a 1980 “Star Wars” parody, but joining the “Glee” star and appearing on an official soundtrack will be relatively new ground for the “Star Wars” actor.
The show’s full album will be released June 12.
