Ryan Murphy’s “Hollywood” reimagines Tinseltown as a more diverse and inclusive place, and screen legend Anna May Wong as an Oscar winner rather than a talented actress sidelined into stereotypical “exotic” roles.
“She was a fashion queen,” Michelle Krusiec — who plays Wong in the Netflix miniseries — told Page Six Style of her character, who’s considered the first Chinese-American movie star. “It was something in her ability to wear clothes that was both of-the-period and modern.”
Over the course of the show, we see Krusiec’s Wong wear stunning costumes like a gold silk dressing gown and a black off-the-shoulder evening ensemble trimmed with fur, but it was the hair and makeup that really helped her transform for the role.
“My favorite part was the wig — the bangs,” she told us. “I didn’t like sitting there and having all these bobby pins piercing my scalp, but honestly, it was worth it. Because every time that wig went on … I felt like I became her.”
