What a difference a year makes.

On Monday, Hannah Brown reflected on her brief engagement to “Bachelorette” finalist Jed Wyatt, noting “sometimes you’ve gotta walk through the shadows to stand in the sun.”

“Ever look back on a memory and it feels like just yesterday… but also like a different life? Me too. Exactly a year ago today,” Brown, 25, began on Instagram, sharing a photo from the scenic proposal in Greece.

While Brown believed the day had “all the makings to be the best day” of her life at the time, she couldn’t shake the feeling something was off.

“I didn’t have words (or maybe I just didn’t have the courage to say them?) but the pit in my stomach was screaming, ‘this ain’t it’ (funny how sometimes it’s the people around you that help you articulate your feelings better than you can),” Brown revealed.

“I could fake a smile but I couldn’t shake the doubt, and looking back, I know why,” she continued. “That ending was not easy, but necessary to get me here.”

Brown initially said “yes” to Wyatt, a Nashville-based singer-songwriter, accepting a 3-carat Neil Lane engagement ring at the conclusion of her “Bachelorette” season. Last summer, Brown confirmed she split from Wyatt upon learning he had been involved with another woman when he was cast on the show.

“If I could go back and tell her something, I would whisper, ‘It’s going to be ok. You’re right, this ain’t it, but it‘s the direction. So open up your hands, and let go of the control. Trust this process, it’s going to be worth it. Also, nice butt!’” Brown shared.

Since her “Bachelorette” journey ended, Brown competed on “Dancing With the Stars” and won the mirrorball trophy with partner Alan Bersten in November. She also reunited with Tyler Cameron in March, with the “Bachelorette” exes quarantining together in Florida. Brown returned to her home state of Alabama in early April.

Brown finished her post by sharing advice for fans, who may be struggling with a similar situation.

“If you are reading this right now, wondering how to navigate a situation that feels so painful and so not what you wanted, maybe you’ll let me tell you what I would’ve told myself: Hold on. Keep moving. You’re going to make it. This ain’t it but what’s coming is so much better,” Brown penned.

“Sometimes you’ve gotta walk through the shadows to stand in the sun,” she added. “And trust me, you’ll really appreciate the way it feels shining down on you, too.”

As for Brown’s current relationship status, the former beauty queen is currently single and looking to date.
