The Dolphins “are in play” for the veteran cornerback, NFL Network reported Tuesday, adding an AFC East intrigue to the chase for one of the top free agents still available.
The Jets have had discussions with Ryan’s representatives, The Post’s Brian Costello reported Tuesday, but no formal offer has been extended yet.
Ryan was reportedly hoping to secure a $10 million contract — the same salary he played on last year with the Titans — but his price tag could come down this late in free agency. The Rutgers product recorded four interceptions, 18 passes defended, four forced fumbles and 4.5 sacks last season.
The Dolphins already spent big at cornerback this offseason, landing former Cowboy Byron Jones on a five-year, $82.5 million contract, including $57 million guaranteed — making him the highest-paid cornerback in the NFL. They also signed cornerback Xavien Howard to a five-year, $76.5 million extension last May and then drafted Auburn cornerback Noah Igbinoghene with the 30th-overall pick in April’s draft.
