Richard Kind is the latest star to join the cast of Tony-nominated composer Andrew Lippa’s “Tiger King: The Musical (A Parody!),” Page Six has learned.
Lippa’s “Tiger King”-inspired tunes have recently been recorded as outrageous home videos by Kristin Chenoweth, Frankie Grande and “RuPaul’s Drag Race” star Nina West. “Now people are legitimately calling me and saying, ‘I want to be involved,’ ” Lippa tells Page Six’s podcast, “We Hear.”
“My friend Richard Kind wants to be a part of this,” he revealed, adding Kind will sing as “Howard, Carole Baskin’s husband.” (Chenoweth played Baskin.) Lippa’s working his way up to a showstopping Joe Exotic tune and says, “What I really want is Jared Leto” to play eccentric, now-imprisoned former big-cat owner Exotic.
It’s unclear if the project that began just for fun might one day come to a real stage. Another possibility could be if an animation company shows interest. Either way, Lippa has a name picked out for potential die-hard fans of the show: “Tiger Cubs.”
