You're a gleeful one, Mr. Grinch.
The Grinch is hitting the small screen.
NBC is bringing the classic Dr. Seuss tale to life in a new musical holiday special, airing Dec. 4.
It will be a two-hour production, titled “Dr. Seuss’ The Grinch Musical,” from the Troubadour Wembley Park Theatre in London, starring “Glee” alum Matthew Morrison, 42, as the titular character. Morrison has also been in “The Good Wife” and “Grey’s Anatomy” and he starred as J. M. Barrie in a 2015 Broadway production of “Finding Neverland.”
Denis O’Hare (“American Horror Story”) will co-star as Old Max, Booboo Stewart (“Julie and the Phantoms”) will play Young Max and newcomer Amelia Minto will portray Cindy Lou Who.
“While the pandemic presents some challenges in bringing the stage musical to life, we are putting together a really special show with some crazy, fun, imaginative things going on,” Morrison told “Today” on Tuesday.
The Grinch has previously been played on the big screen by Jim Carrey (in 2000) and Benedict Cumberbatch (in 2018). This will be the latest of NBC’s holiday season musicals — past entries included “Jesus Christ Superstar” starring John Legend and “Peter Pan” starring Alison Williams.
“Dr. Seuss’ The Grinch Musical” will air at 8 p.m. Dec. 4 on NBC.
