The Jets are scheduled to begin the 2020 NFL season with a familiar opening opponent, and they’ll later get a primetime visit from the Tom Brady-less Patriots.
If the NFL season begins on time, the Jets are scheduled to face the Bills in Buffalo at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 13, according to a source. There are questions about whether the season will begin as scheduled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The entire NFL schedule will be released on Thursday night.
The Jets are also set to play host to the Patriots on “Monday Night Football” on Nov. 9, according to a source.
This will be the third time in four years the Jets have opened the season against the Bills. They also played in Buffalo in 2017 and opened last year at home against the Bills.
The Jets split their series with the Bills last year, winning 13-6 in Week 17 in Buffalo and losing a 17-16 heartbreaker at home in Week 1. Jets quarterback Sam Darnold and Bills quarterback Josh Allen are good friends and have worked out together in California during this offseason.
The Bills are expected to be the favorites in the AFC East with Tom Brady now leaving the Patriots and the AFC East for the Buccaneers.
The Patriots embarrassed the Jets last season on “Monday Night Football,” losing 33-0. Jets quarterback Sam Darnold said he was “seeing ghosts” in that game and the ESPN aired it.
The Jets have not beaten the Patriots since 2015. But maybe they will end that streak with a different quarterback, currently slated to be second-year Jarrett Stidham, operating for Bill Belichick.
