This game of connect-the-dots was easy to follow.

It is never a bad idea to bring in a player with strong knowledge of the new offensive system, and that is what the Giants did Tuesday, claiming quarterback Cooper Rush off waivers from the Cowboys. Rush spent the past three years in Dallas, making this a reunion with Jason Garrett, the former Cowboys head coach and the Giants’ new offensive coordinator.

Rush, 26, was undrafted in 2017 out of Central Michigan, where he completed 60 percent of his passes for 12,891 yards, 90 touchdowns and 55 interceptions. He was the No. 3 quarterback the past three years for the Cowboys, getting into five regular-season games. Rush has three pass attempts and one completion in his career.

He should be able to help all the other quarterbacks acclimate to Garrett’s system, given Rush already knows the plays and the jargon used by Garrett, plays and jargon that are unfamiliar to the others in the room.

Rush was let go by the Cowboys on Monday after they signed former Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton, presumably to back up Dak Prescott.

The Giants now have five quarterbacks on their roster. Daniel Jones is the starter and veteran Colt McCoy was signed as the experienced backup. Alex Tanney, a holdover from the Pat Shurmur regime, was re-signed and Case Cookus from Northern Arizona was signed as an undrafted free agent. The presence of Rush figures to affect Tanney most of all, given Rush’s history with Garrett.

To make room on the 90-man roster, wide receiver Reggie White Jr. of Monmouth (N.J.) was waived.
