With one of the fourth-round picks the Jets acquired from the Patriots in a Friday night trade, they selected a developmental quarterback to potentially be Sam Darnold’s backup, selecting Florida International signal-caller James Morgan 125th overall on Saturday.

Four of their first six picks have been offensive players, a sharp change from previous drafts when defense seemingly was always the focal point.

The 6-foot-4 quarterback from Wisconsin started his career at Bowling Green and transferred to Florida International, where he started the last two years, throwing 40 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. He’s also smart, reportedly one credit short of earning his master’s degree in public administration.
