Director Sofia Coppola has revealed some coveted advice her filmmaker father Francis Ford Coppola gave her as a teen that you wouldn’t usually hear from your parents: Study poetry.
The Oscar winner told moderator Annette Insdorf during an online 92nd Street Y talk that her iconic director dad gave her an encyclopedia of “poetics” (that’s literary criticism for the rest of us), and she said that he “always talked about film being poetry.”
