An auto theft charge was dropped Monday against late Brooklyn-born rapper Pop Smoke, who was gunned down inside a Los Angeles mansion in February, the feds announced in a court filing.
Pop Smoke, whose real name is Bashar Jackson, was charged last January with stealing a $375,000 black Rolls Royce that he used in a video shoot and transporting it back to Brooklyn, where he shared a home with his parents.
While out on a $250,000 bond, the “Welcome to the Party” rapper was shot dead February 19 at a sprawling Hollywood Hills home in what police believe was a targeted hit by a group of four masked suspects.
Investigators theorized that Pop Smoke’s murder may have been gang-related, with the rapper shot dead over his ties to the Crips, according to a report.
Detectives leaned toward that motive after learning the four suspects fled the $2.5 million mansion with no cash or jewelry, sources have told the Los Angeles Times.
