Senators Kirsten Gillibrand and Cory Booker are angling to be picked as Joe Biden’s running mate in the 2020 election. A Democratic source says the New York and New Jersey senators have both “let it be known of their interest in being picked as Joe Biden’s running mate.”
Unfortunately for Booker, Biden has committed to selecting a woman as his running mate, and his campaign is currently considering a wide range of candidates in order to determine who could best work with Biden, who recently told donors at a virtual fundraiser, “The reason why it worked for Barack [Obama] and me so well is we agreed substantively on every major issue. So it’s going to be important that whomever I pick is completely comfortable with my policy prescriptions.”
Names seen as potential running mates for Biden include Senators Kamala Harris, Amy Klobuchar and Elizabeth Warren, Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer – famously characerized by President Donald Trump as “The woman in Michigan.” There’s also a lot of buzz in Democratic circles that Biden may pick Nevada Senator Catherine Cortez Mastro, the first Latina senator in the US, to help him win votes in that demographic.
