Nope.

That, essentially, is Joe Judge’s message to anyone who believes he and the Giants are at a disadvantage dealing with an offseason and an upcoming NFL Draft during a global pandemic.

With team facilities shut down and players scattered across the country, it would make sense that the NFL teams with returning coaching staffs and veteran quarterbacks would have an edge, with so much virtual learning going on and no ability to get players onto the field for instruction.

Judge, 38, is a first-time head coach and his quarterback, Daniel Jones, is heading into his second NFL season. If this puts the Giants behind any other teams, it is news to Judge.

“Look, I think the advantage goes to whoever’s best prepared from this point forward,” Judge said Wednesday on a conference call from his home in Massachusetts. “I don’t think any established program is going to have an advantage over anybody else. It’s how you can find a way to communicate with your players and deliver a message. Whether you’ve been in the program for years or not, everyone has changes to their system, everybody has changes to what they’re going to be doing in the off-season. They’re going to have the same challenges of communicating to their players.”

These are unprecedented times for everyone, including football coaches. Judge said the Giants long ago looked ahead and formulated contingency plans that are currently in place.

“All we’re concerned about with this part is getting the foundation laid through whatever means that ends up being,” Judge said. “We’ve been preparing for this now for some time, for these meetings to go virtual, communicating with our players through the conditioning program, having everything set up that we can work with them.”
