Former NFL quarterback Tarvaris Jackson died in a car accident Sunday night in Alabama, NFL Network reported Monday.

Jackson, who was about to begin his second season as quarterbacks coach for Tennessee State, was 36.

The former second-round (64th overall) pick out of Alabama State in 2006 played the first five seasons of his NFL career with the Vikings. He signed a two-year contract with the Seahawks in 2011 before getting traded to the Bills a year later.

Jackson then rejoined the Seahawks in June 2013 and was Russell Wilson’s backup on the team that crushed the Broncos in XLVIII. Jackson came into the game in mop-duty in the 43-8 Seahawks rout.

“TJack… you will be missed. Praying for your family…Love you man,” Wilson tweeted on Monday morning.

Jackson played 10 seasons in the NFL, retiring after the 2015 season.

After taking a graduate assistant role at his alma mater in 2018, Jackson was named quarterbacks coach for Tennessee State in 2019.
