Todd Chrisley tested positive for coronavirus and is opening up about the “life-altering” diagnosis that has taught him what “truly matters.”

The “Chrisley Knows Best” star revealed on his Chrisley Confessions podcast on Wednesday that he was recently hospitalized with COVID-19.

“It has been the sickest that I have ever been in the 52 years I’ve been on this earth,” he said. “I cannot ever tell you a time in my life where I have ever been as sick as what I had been with the coronavirus.”

The reality star shared that battling the disease has been “life-altering” for him and his family.

“I think that what it has taught me is to look around and see the things that truly, truly matter — and what matters is health,” he said. “You can have all the money in the world but if you don’t have your health, you have nothing. It’s been a tough, tough three weeks.”

Todd’s wife and podcast co-host, Julie Chrisley, cautioned listeners, “This is serious.”

“Todd and I have been together for 25 years, I have never in 25 years seen him as sick as what he was in the past few weeks,” she said. “If you are doubting or have not been affected by corona personally … you need to know that this is serious.”

Julie added, “There are people who are dying and we have to take it seriously. We have to practice social distancing, and we have to stay in if at all possible.”

The couple’s daughter, Savannah Chrisley, detailed the progression of Todd’s diagnosis on her Instagram.

She shared that Todd was first quarantined in their home for seven days before testing positive, but as his symptoms grew worse, he was forced to check into the Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville.

“I have never been so scared in my life,” the 22-year-old wrote. “When dad started getting sick I immediately started worrying … he and I are the worriers of the bunch.”

She dispelled speculation that Todd got special treatment because he’s a “celebrity.”

“He went into an urgent care just like the rest of u would,” Savannah said.

The reality star shared that one of the toughest parts about her father being sick was not being able to be with him while he was in the hospital for three days.

“At one point I fell on my hands and knees and begged God to not take him..to not take my bestfriend [sic]..I would give everything I had if it meant keeping my daddy,” she said. “I was so desperate that I dropped photos of our family off at the hospital and said ‘If he sees these I know he’ll keep fighting!’”

Savannah then pled to her followers, “STAY HOME! SOCIAL DISTANCE! And most importantly..LOVE HARDER THAN EVER! Life is so short.”
