The Very Best Fashion Moments in the History of the Grammys

Michael Jackson, Adele, Beyonce and more celebs have made it on our best Grammy style list throughout the years – see them all!

We are just a few days away from music’s biggest night, with the 2021 Grammy Awards set to take place Sunday, March 14, at the Staples Center in L.A. While we can’t wait see Taylor Swift, Harry Styles, Billie Eilish and more perform at the 63rd annual awards show, we’re equally as excited to see what the celebs wear on the red carpet!

The Grammys red carpet is not for the faint of heart, with the biggest stars from music, movies, TV and more rocking whimsical (and sometimes wacky!) designs that push the limits of style.

Don’t believe it? Allow Us to jog your memory.

Cher arrived at the 1974 Grammys in an ab-baring ensemble that included a sparkly butterfly headpiece and matching bra. Toni Braxton took home two awards in 2001 — one for Favorite Soul/R&B Female Artist and one for Favorite Soul/R&B Album for The Heat — in a dress held together on a wing and prayer, but not before Jennifer Lopez broke the then-fledgling internet in 2000 with her iconic nearly naked Versace gown.

Former Google executive chairman Eric Schmidt has credited the plunging tropical-print gown for the invention of Google Images, so you can tip your cap to J. Lo next time you’re searching for those cute puppy memes. Oh, and then there was that time Lady Gaga arrived at the 2011 show in an egg because … she’s Lady Gaga and she’d already worn a meat dress to the VMAs.

In 2018, the night took a more poignant turn when celebs — men and women alike! — incorporated white roses into their ensembles in support of the Time’s Up movement. It was an important reminder that fashion can be about more than glitz and glamour. And 2019 was all about show-stopping looks, like Cardi B‘s vintage Mugler ensemble and 2020 was all about over-the-top ensembles like Chrissy Teigen’s orange Yanina Couture ball gown.

From Mariah Carey’s leggy mini in 1991 and Adele’s 2013 floral-festooned frock to TLC and Destiny’s Child‘s matchy-matchy style, there is no shortage of stand out Grammys red carpet style moments. Keep scrolling to see all the daring dresses, glitzy gowns, power pantsuits and more that stood out through the decades!
