White House economic adviser Larry Kudlow on Wednesday said the US was in a “deep review process” of a deal Oracle struck with the popular video-sharing app TikTok’s Chinese parent company.

Kudlow says “security and ownership” were important to President Trump in the review process.

Earlier Wednesday, White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany said the Trump administration will make a decision soon on the proposed deal for Oracle to become a “trusted technology provider” for TikTok’s US operations.

“We’ll have a decision here in short order,” McEnany said. “I don’t want to get ahead of the president but obviously we care deeply about protecting the data and security of American citizens.”

Marco Rubio and five other Republican senators have called on the Trump administration to reject the deal if ties to Chinese owner Bytedance remain.
