On Tuesday, Kim Kardashian and the rest of the Kardashian-Jenner clan announced the end of “Keeping Up With the Kardashians,” shocking fans and reality TV lovers around the world.
The family graciously thanked their fans, and Kim even admitted she “wouldn’t be where I am today” without the long-running series, but no one in the family revealed why they decided to call it quits on their easiest money-maker.
Page Six can reveal that the family decided to let the show go because they finally grew tired after 20 seasons. Sources told us the family would prefer to go out on a “high note.”
“It was a good time to end,” our insider shared.
Reps for the Kardashians didn’t return our request for comment.
“E! has been the home and extended family to the Kardashian-Jenners for what will be 14 years, featuring the lives of this empowering family. Along with all of you, we have enjoyed following the intimate moments the family so bravely shared by letting us into their daily lives,” an E! spokesperson told Page Six in a statement Wednesday.
“While it has been an absolute privilege and we will miss them wholeheartedly, we respect the family’s decision to live their lives without our cameras.”
Notably, the Kardashian-Jenners inked a $150 million deal with E! in 2017 to extend “Keeping Up with the Kardashians” for another five seasons, taking them through Season 20.
We’re also exclusively — and emphatically — told that Kanye West’s mental health played no role in the decision to go off the air. West has struggled publicly over the last few months with his bipolar disorder, prompting wife Kim to come out in his defense as he worked to get better.
“Keeping Up With the Kardashians” spawned 12 spin-offs, including “Kourtney & Kim Take New York,” “Khloé & Lamar,” “Kourtney & Khloé Take Miami,” “Rob & Chyna,” “I Am Cait” and “Life With Kylie.”
The penultimate season of “Keeping Up with the Kardashians” will launch on E! on Sept. 17, 2020, and the final season will air in 2021.
The ending of “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” is the latest hit to E!, which has taken numerous blows amid the pandemic. In August, the NBC-owned network announced its titular news show, “E! News,” had been canceled, as well as its new morning show “Pop of the Morning,” which launched in January. E! also canceled Jason Kennedy’s interview show “In the Room.”
