The coronavirus decimated the 2020 music festival season, so consider Sunday’s MTV VMAs the hottest virtual concert of the year.

The annual Video Music Award extravaganza is just about the closest thing to a live music event we’ll see this year — even if stars might be accepting their Moon Person trophies on the August 30th show from their homes.

Previously slated to be held at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center, the awards show will now be comprised of outdoor performances around New York City without big crowds — and adhering to state and city guidelines — to “pay homage to the incredible resiliency of New York,” one of the cities hit hardest by COVID-19.

Miley Cyrus will once again make her return to the stage to perform her latest single, “Midnight Sky,” along with Lady Gaga, Doja Cat, BTS and more during the show, which starts at 8/7c.

The pre-show, which starts at 6:30 PM EST and is hosted by MTV’s Nessa Diab and Jamila Mustafa, also has its own set of performers, including Chloe x Halle, Jack Harlow, Lewis Capaldi, Tate McRae, Machine Gun Kelly, Travis Barker and blackbear.

Lady Gaga

Gaga donned her quarantine finest — pool slides with socks, a bathrobe and a wild headdress mask — to announce the first performance from her newly released “Chromatica” album.

The 34-year-old leads this year’s VMA nominations with nine nods, tied with fellow songstress Ariana Grande. Their collaboration, “Rain on Me,” alone received seven nods, including video of the year.

This year marks a decade since Gaga, whose real name is Stefani Germanotta, debuted her now-infamous meat dress at the 2010 show and the first time she’ll hit the VMA stage since 2013.

Ariana Grande

It’s raining divas! Ariana Grande, 27, is set to join Gaga on stage for “Rain on Me,” marking the world premiere of the performance.

Grande has something else to celebrate, too. The singer recently dethroned Rihanna to become Spotify’s “most streamed female artist of all-time” with more than 20.5 billion streams.

“holy s–t thank u all so much for listening and caring at all let alone this much,” she wrote on Instagram. “i can’t wait to give u new things to listen to. now can rihanna pls drop her album so she can rightfully snatch this back and fill my ears again please.”

Miley Cyrus

It’s a night of firsts for the 27-year-old, although she’s certainly no stranger to the VMAs stage. Cyrus will be making her live debut of “Midnight Sky,” her latest single which she just dropped last week. “S - - ts about to get freaky I can feel it. I hope you’re ready….” she wrote on Instagram.

Her video for “Mother’s Daughter” is nominated for best art direction and best editing. Cyrus has been known to really amp it up for the annual MTV event, where she famously twerked on Robin Thicke in 2013 during a performance of his “Blurred Lines.”

The Weeknd

Will The Weeknd bring the heat again? The 30-year-old singer, who set the VMA stage ablaze in 2015, will perform at the awards for the second time, “bringing a keyed-up, dazzling” performance of his album “After Hours,” according to MTV.

The Weeknd, whose real name is Abel Tesfaye, has six VMA nominations — the second-most nominations, tied with Billie Eilish — this year, including video of the year and artist of the year, for “Blinding Lights,” which recently passed Drake and Bruno Mars as the longest-running R&B No. 1 hit ever.

The singer recently performed an “After Hours” concert livestream on TikTok, which amassed more than 2 million viewers.

BTS

It’s a VMA debut! The K-pop group will perform at the VMAs for the first time ever, but that’s not the only first. The group is nominated for the best pop, best K-pop and best choreography categories — all for their hit song “On.” The VMAs, however, will feature the TV debut of their new single, “Dynamite,” which dropped Aug. 21.

The boy band is already crushing records with the “Dynamite” video, which premiered along with the song last week. It racked up the highest numbers ever for a YouTube video premiere, with 3 million concurrent viewers for the midnight debut, and it’s also on track to become the most-viewed video in its first 24 hours in YT history, with over 254 million views and counting.

The clip is a candy-coated romp full of synchronized dancing and heartthrob posing, according to The Post’s Chuck Arnold — but not only is “Dynamite” an irresistible disco bop, it’s also the first song by BTS that is completely in English, which may be one of the reasons why the single is such an instant sensation.

Doja Cat

This marks the first VMA performance for Doja Cat (real name: Amala Zandile Dlamini), who is up for “push artist” of the year, song of the year and best direction.

It’s possible the singer, 24, will perform with The Weeknd, since the pair debuted a snippet of a brand-new song during “The Weeknd Experience” livestream on TikTok.

CNCO

The Miami-based boy band is nominated in the brand-new best quarantine performance category, as well as best choreography for “Honey Boo.”

Maluma

Colombian singer Maluma, 26, is up for the best Latin award for his collaboration with J Balvin, “Qué Pena.” The video is also up against J Balvin’s “Amarillo” in the same category.

Maluma — whose real name is Juan Luis Londoño Arias — recently told The Post last week that he got back in touch with “this little kid, this little dreamer” who started out in the reggaeton game 10 years ago: “I was feeling that energy again.”

He’ll be bringing that energy to the VMAs, when he’ll take the stage at one of various outdoor locations to do his new single, “Hawái.”

“That’s gonna be a big performance for me,” he said. “I’m gonna bring all the Hawaiian vibe to the show.”

DaBaby

After news that J Balvin and Roddy Ricch pulled out of the awards show, MTV announced DaBaby would instead take the stage for the first time ever. The 28-year-old rapper, whose real name is Jonathan Lyndale Kirk, is nominated for four awards, including Artist of the Year. “Bop” is up for Best Hip-Hop and Best Choreography while his song with Camila Cabello, “My Oh My,” is up Best Cinematography.

Black Eyed Peas

Despite being together since 1995, the Black Eyed Peas have actually never performed at the MTV VMAs. All of that will change this year when the trio — Apl.de.ap, will.i.am and Taboo — will take the stage and reportedly perform their new single “Vida Loca,” out on Friday. Will.I.Am and crew’s “Ritmo (Bad Boys For Life)” is nominated in the Best Collaboration category and their Ozuna and J. Rey Soul song “Mamacita” is up for Best Latin.
