Amelia Gray Hamlin says her battle with anorexia almost took her life.
Lisa Rinna’s daughter, 19, first told fans that she was recovering from an eating disorder in April 2018 and said on Tuesday’s episode of the “Skinny Confidential” podcast that the doctor overseeing her recovery only gave her months to live because of how bad her health was.
“I woke up one morning at my best friend’s house. My parents, my sister, they’re all outside, like waiting to pick me up,” she explained of her family’s intervention. “They’re like, ‘Get in the car. We’re going to UCLA [to get treatment].’”
She continued, “We show up, it’s like this really scary old man’s office. He looked at me and he was like, ‘At this rate, in about four months, you’re going to be 45 pounds and you’re going to be dead.’”
Upon hearing that she could die, Hamlin said she just “snapped out of it” and decided it was time to get better.
Calling herself lucky, she said, “I’m not going to be this type of person. I’m not going to ruin my life because of whatever issues I’m having. You don’t need to be skinny to live your best life. It’s either be skinny and die or happy and be who you are.”
Hamlin’s anorexia battle recently resurfaced on “RHOBH,” as newbie Garcelle Beauvais asked Rinna, 57, if she believes her sexy dancing videos contributed to her daughter’s body image issues.
“It just really breaks my heart when people blame it on [my mom] because it really isn’t her fault that she was born in such a slim figure,” Hamlin said on Tuesday, adding, “I get it that you’re the new ‘Housewife,’ but you don’t need to bring in a story that you probably know nothing about. She’s probably never even read my posts on my story. I’ve never even met her … To bring that up and blame it on my mom, my mom already has to deal with so much blame and guilt.”
Hamlin has previously said that she believes she would’ve relapsed had she not gone public with her battle.
