The celebrity gossip industry was concerned when the pandemic threatened to halt the formation of new celebrity couples early in 2020. We were heartened in late March when “Vampire Diaries” actress Nina Dobrev and three-time Olympic gold medalist Shaun White were spotted biking together in Malibu.
The pair went Instagram official late in May — with Dobrev giving White a quarantine haircut, startling those of us who haven’t seen this behavior in celebrity couples much further along. Now they’ve lapped a new milestone: being snapped by photographers while frolicking in Tulum, Mexico, a ritual as hallowed as the swallows returning to Capistrano.
Keen-eyed celebrity watchers will recognize the familiar patterns on display from Dobrev, 31, and White, 33. There’s “piggy-back in the waves,” right on schedule along with “tenderly making out in the surf.” White is also still rocking the two-tone bleached haircut that’s a marked departure from his natural shock of red hair that earned him the nickname “The Flying Tomato” early on (and which he is reportedly sick of).
“Nina and Shaun have gotten really close during the quarantine and have been having the best time traveling together,” a source told Us Weekly of their jaunt.
Dobrev was last linked to screenwriter-director Grant Mellon. The pair split in November.
