Cardi B defended the decision to include Kylie Jenner in her new “WAP” music video, featuring Megan Thee Stallion, after thousands of people signed a petition asking for the makeup mogul’s removal.
Cardi’s video included cameos by Normani as well as up-and-coming rappers Mulatto, Rubi Rose, and Sukihana, but fans were less than thrilled with 23-year-old Jenner’s appearance in which she walks down a hallway donning a sexy leopard-print ensemble.
One disgruntled viewer tweeted out a screenshot of Normani twerking in the video and wrote, “Normani did ALL this and Kylie walked down the hall and opened a door. If that’s not a perfect visual indication of Black women having to do the most and white women do the bare minimum to get somewhere, I don’t know what is.”
But Cardi, 27, quickly shot down the jab and defended the video’s inclusion of Jenner.
“Normani is one of the best female artist that dances Like she dances her f—kin ass off! Why would she open a door? Please tell me how that would make sense? The best part of the song is the beat & hook it what makes you want to shake your ass,” she wrote in a since-deleted tweet (via Us Weekly.)
She also added that, “Not everything is about race.”
“Theres issues out here in the world that it is about race that I preach all the time about,” she said, reiterating, “This is not about f—kin race.”
Cardi then explained her reasons behind having Jenner in the first place.
“Why did I put Kylie on my music video? She treated my sister and daughter so lovely at her kid bday party,” she said.
She also added that Jenner’s ex Travis Scott is close friends with Cardi’s husband Offset and that Jenner’s mom Kris Jenner has been “giving me advice on certain things I ask for.” She also said that Kris’s boyfriend Cory Gamble is also close with Offset, who shares 2-year-old daughter Kulture with Cardi.
Replying to a fan that tweeted, “Normani danced, that’s her talent! Kylie strutted like a model, that’s her talent! People just weird!” Cardi wrote, “Exactly.”
Warning: explicit language
As of Monday, the Change.org petition called “Remove Kylie Jenner from WAP video” has received more than 65,000 signatures.
The petition states, “The video was perfect until we saw K and I wanted to throw my phone.”
Jenner has yet to respond to criticism. A rep for the reality star did not immediately return our request for comment.
