Megxit hasn’t been the smooth transition to private life Prince Harry and wife Meghan Markle were hoping for.
The couple is now in the process of suing an unnamed defendant for invasion of privacy, according to documents shared by Hollywood Reporter Senior Editor Eriq Garner.
Throughout the filing, Meghan and Harry detail their distress over moving overseas to escape “tabloid fabrications” only to be met with drones flying overhead and a chaotic press presence. They also show deep concern for the well-being of their son, Archie, as well as for their general safety.
“At the beginning of this year,” reads the suit, “Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex, and Meghan, The Duchess of Sussex (the ‘Plaintiffs’), announced their intention to reside, at least part-time, in North America, in an attempt to escape the incessant UK tabloid fabrications.
“For the first six weeks, the Plaintiffs lived unmolested in the quiet, isolated town of North Saanich, Canada, with no disturbance to the surrounding community. But then the Daily Mail, a British tabloid, decided to publicize their exact location, which as usual resulted in up to 40 paparazzi and media organizations descending on this peaceful community from hundreds of miles away. The resulting harassment and intimidation created disruption and discomfort for both the family and local community.”
Defendants on the California-filed lawsuit are listed as “John Doe 1,” “John Doe 2” and “John Doe 3,” which, according to Gardner, “sets up the potential for discovery.”
Attorney Michael Kump will be representing the A-listers, which should come as no surprise, as the popular lawyer has also represented stars like Sandra Bullock, Barbra Streisand, Jessica Simpson and the Kardashian/Jenner sisters.
Back in May, the couple moved into a sprawling, ultra-luxe, $18 million Beverly Hills mansion owned by Hollywood mogul Tyler Perry. Following an upswing in drone activity around the home, the pair hired the director’s private security team to look after them and the property.
