Alexa Ray Joel may not be able to get an appointment with her usual hairstylist, but she doesn’t seem fazed.
The 34-year-old musician’s model mom, Christie Brinkley, showed off her grade-A hairdressing skills on Instagram Monday, giving her eldest daughter — whom she shares with ex-husband Billy Joel — a salon-grade cut from the comfort of her home.
“Hair Today Gone Tomorrow!,” Brinkley, 66, began her caption. “Alexa Ray asked me to cut her hair because she wanted a change…she wanted Sass with Class and I think we did it ! Et Voilà! My beautiful baby!”
Previously, Alexa Ray’s long locks stretched down to below her waist; now, thanks to her mom’s scissor skills, she’s sporting a much shorter layered cut with plenty of movement and volume.

Brinkley’s followers were seriously impressed. “I can’t believe you gave her that cut. So professional,” one person commented, while another wrote, “Just beautiful. You nailed it.”
Alexa Ray seemed thrilled with the final results, too. “‘Anything you can do, Mom can do better’… @christiebrinkley what can’t you do?” she wrote, while her sister Sailor Brinkley-Cook added, “This haircut makes me wanna sing grown woman by Beyonce.”
It makes sense that Brinkley and her daughter would opt for at-home haircuts; while New York salons have reopened post-lockdown (with strict social distancing guidelines in place), many are being flooded by customers eager to freshen up their tresses.
Alexa Ray Joel is one of many celebs to have undergone a major hair transformation during quarantine, following in the footsteps of Tiffany Haddish, Kacey Musgraves and Demi Moore, among many others.
