Don’t go searching for Naya Rivera on your own, law enforcement officials warned Sunday.
The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office asked amateur sleuths to stay away from Lake Piru as they continue to scour the area for Rivera, who is presumed to have drowned Wednesday during a boat trip with her young son.
“Our teams are well equipped and highly trained,” the department tweeted.
“We don’t want to have to rescue you.”
Officials said that, in addition to the lake being closed, the terrain around the body of water was “very steep and rugged” and noted that temperatures were already in the 90s.
The warning was issued after a number of people posted about their plans to gather at the lake on social media and some called the dispatch center about aiding in the search, Capt. Eric Buschow, a Ventura County Sheriff’s Office spokesman, told The Post.
“It just compounds the problem when people — with good intentions trying to help — show up and don’t have the right training,” said Buschow.
“A search like this isn’t haphazard where people go hiking and looking, it’s a very specific way of looking for people,” he added.
Deputies want to avoid folks getting hurt or dehydrated while trying to maneuver around the steep canyons in the area, since they would then have to divert resources from the search to help, said Buschow.
Rivera’s former “Glee” co-star Heather Morris earlier on Sunday pleaded with authorities to join the search.
“I understand your team is doing EVERYTHING in their power, but we are feeling helpless, powerless and want to help in any way,” Morris wrote to the sheriff’s office on Twitter.
“I have left a message with the Department of Rescue and Air today, and I will call again tomorrow. Thank you.”
