Is Kanye West really running for President?

Kanye West seems pretty set upon world domination – whether that is through music or, in his recent announcement, through becoming the US president.

The rapper tweeted: “We must now realize the promise of America by trusting God, unifying our vision and building our future.

“I am running for president of the United States! #2020VISION”

He also announced he was building shelters, though further information on this was not forthcoming, and posted a picture of another major figure who supports him: Elon Musk.

His wife, Kim Kardashian West, shared her support, but some are suspecting West’s announcement is actually something completely different.

However, it’s not clear if West is actually running for president.

He does not appear to have registered his name with the Federal Election Commission (FEC) for this year’s election.

The closest name the FEC database shows is a candidate called “Kanye Deez Nutz West”, who filed their papers with the Green Party in 2015 under the address “1977 Golddigger Avenue, Suite Yeezus” and appears to have raised no money.

A spokesman for bookmakers Paddy Power said: “Kanye West’s latest announcement has helped out his pal Donald Trump, as his odds for the 2020 Election shortened for the first time in weeks.

“However, we’re fairly confident he’s more likely to be pushing his new album or a new trainer collection than a serious run for office.

“Then again, we’ve seen stranger things an egomaniac with zero political experience running for President…”

It is not clear which party West would run for, as he has supported Donald Trump in the past.

Appearing at the White House with Mr Trump in 2018, West said of the US President: “I love this guy right here.

He then walked behind the desk to hug Mr Trump, who said: “That’s really nice.”

There are some bets on what else West could be pointing towards with Saturday’s slightly strange announcement.

Paddy Power had odds of 7/4 last week for Trump still reigning victorious in the election, but it looks as though West has caused odds to shift to 6/4 since the announcement.

Odds are currently set at 1/5 that West does not even run for President, and instead does something like releasing an album, which has 4/6 odds, or reveals a new fashion collection, which is at 5/1 odds.

If he does run, odds are on a Keeping Up With The Kardashians season 19 episode to be filmed at the White House, with 6/1 chances of this or 8/1 chances of him doing a live performance there.

It’s also not the first time West has said he intend to run for president.

At the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards, he said he had decided to run for president in 2020, but in November last year pushed the date back, saying he would actually run in the 2024 contest.
