Wayne Brady has opened up about the scary incident which left him fearing that his daughter, Maile Masako Brady, could become a victim of racial profiling.

The comedian told “Access Hollywood” that when Maile was 14, she accidentally locked herself out of the family’s Malibu home, setting off an alarm that warned “armed” responders of an intruder on the premises.

“I freaked out,” Wayne, 48, said. “I was so worried that my daughter could not explain in the heat of the moment, ‘Yes, it’s my house.’ Was she going to let these officers in?”

The concerned father said he told his daughter, “Get out of the house right now and run around the corner and down the street about half a mile. Go to your mama’s house.”

Wayne said Maile — who is now 17 — did not understand at the time why her father was so panicked. He explained his concern was rooted in a past experience where he was locked out of a former home in Sherman Oaks, Calif., and had to prove he owned it.

“The fear that these people would hurt me as I’m outside my own house — because it’s not unprecedented — so I knew that I could handle that because I was a man, but I was fearful for my little girl,” he said.

Wayne said he sat down with Maile after the incident to explain why he reacted the way he did.

The “Whose Line Is It Anyway?” star added, “It’s a conversation that I’m glad I had because every young black person that we send out into the world, guy or girl … we need to arm each other with knowledge because it’s just necessary.”
