A star-studded PSA for the “I Take Responsibility” campaign — featuring “influential voices from the white community [taking] responsibility for turning the racist tide in America” — is now being parodied by the white cast members of popular Netflix series, “Dear White People.”

The campaign was immediately met with criticism for its overly dramatic delivery and for celebs “making this about” themselves, prompting “Dear White People” cast members John Patrick Amedori, Wyatt Nash, Caitlin Carver, Erich Lane, and Sheridan Pierce to shoot their own version as the tone-deaf characters they play on the series. The show largely focuses on both subtle and overt racism experienced on college campuses.

“The white students of Winchester also want to take responsibility. We tried to stop them. #DearUsPeople,” read the clip’s caption.

The actors went on to make exaggerated facial expressions while holding their hands over their hearts as somber piano music played in the background, mocking those involved in the original PSA including Sarah Paulson, Aaron Paul and Kesha.

“I take responsibility for being white and pretty and desirable to men of all races,” said Carver, who plays Muffy Tuttle. “For not posting the black square soon enough, but for leaving it up far too long.”

Nash, as Kurt Fletcher, explained, “I take responsibility… for being hilarious even though people are PC now.”

Channeling her inner Karen, Pierce, who plays Abigail, added, “I take responsibility… for having asked to see many managers.”

The original clip was also compared to Gal Gadot’s “Imagine” montage during the coronavirus outbreak, which also sparked outrage.
