Fred Willard died of heart failure.
The 86-year-old “Best In Show” actor went into cardiac arrest on May 15 at 6:45 p.m, according to a death certificate obtained by TMZ on Wednesday.
However, Willard also had two other conditions that may have contributed to his death.
For years, he suffered from myelodysplastic syndrome, a bone marrow failure disorder in which the bone marrow does not produce enough healthy blood cells. He also had coronary artery disease, which clogged his arteries and restricted blood flow to the heart.
When Willard passed, his family immediately confirmed that he had died of natural causes.
His daughter, Hope Mulbarger said in a statement, “My father passed away very peacefully last night at the fantastic age of 86 years old. He kept moving, working and making us happy until the very end.”
As noted on his death certificate, Willard had a 60-year career as a working actor in Hollywood.
He received three Emmy nominations for his recurring role on the TV series “Everybody Loves Raymond,” and also appeared in hit sitcoms like “Roseanne,” “Mad about You,” and most recently, “Modern Family.”
