Kyle Newman has fired back at estranged wife Jaime King, claiming in court papers she’s a “chronic drug addict and alcoholic.”

Newman, 44, claimed in court documents filed Friday morning and obtained by Page Six that the “Hart of Dixie” actress, 41, “refuses to acknowledge that she has a problem, let alone seek meaningful treatment for such problem.”

He further alleges she abused opiates before their two children — James, 6, and Leo, 4 — were born and throughout her pregnancies, resulting in Leo “being born addicted to opiates.”

The documents also claim that King spent 10 months trying to wean herself off the opiates under medical supervision, but ultimately relapsed in January 2020 and began “drinking even more heavily.”

Newman claims on Jan. 12, 2020, he and 14 of King’s closest friends staged an intervention.

King purportedly checked into a rehab facility in Utah but, shortly after arriving, checked herself out against professional advice.

Newman claims that in February, when King had to relocate to Canada for work, he and their sons visited her, only to be blown off because she was “too busy.” He claims she later admitted to having an affair.

Newman also alleges at King’s “insistence,” the kids were to remain with him and his family in Pennsylvania during the pandemic, only for her to become “erratic” and claim in court documents she filed earlier this week that he had kidnapped them.

King filed for divorce earlier this week and was granted a temporary restraining order, but her emergency motion related to child custody and visitation was denied.

Newman is requesting the court grant him temporary primary physical custody of the kids with visitation for King. Currently, they share joint legal custody. He also wants King to submit to random drug and alcohol testing, including prescription pills.

He also wants King to be ordered to complete a parenting class.

A source tells Page Six that the long-term physical custody status of the kids will be determined at a future hearing, but they’ll remain with Newman in Pennsylvania for now; they’re under no obligation to return to LA.

In response to this latest action, King’s rep told Page Six, “This is another vicious, failed attempt of Kyle to continue his abuse of Jaime and manipulate the court system. Today Kyle was denied all requests for emergency orders and the judge granted Jaime shared legal custody of their two children. The temporary domestic violence restraining order remains in place to protect Jaime.”

Newman and King tied the knot in November 2007.
