Page Six recently reported on a new wave of speakeasies that have popped up across the city. And we suppose this is the new pirate cove of corona-era boozing.
Just hours after New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced that the lockdown has been extended until June 13, the Honorable William Wall — the bar atop the floating headquarters of the Manhattan Yacht Club which sits, not quite in international waters, but just off Ellis Island in New York Harbor — announced that it plans to open on Jun. 6.
Bars on dry land aren’t expected to be open for several more months.
“The tide is turning. The Honorable William Wall is run by the Manhattan Yacht Club and WE ARE SAILORS. We know that all storms come to an end and that blue skies will appear soon,” the club’s commodore said in an email Friday. “This summer will not be normal. All of us have been significantly stressed by the pandemic and we may still have to deal with the economic fallout. We could accept this as the new normal. But on the Honorable William Wall, we will not accept this. We will fight back. It is our intention to make this the GREATEST SUMMER EVER.”
The bar — fondly known as the “Willy Wall” — offered to host parties, as well as its nightly bar hours.
The bar can only be reached by a boat.
