Raven-Symoné is among the celebrities featured in Fox’s new series “Celebrity Watch Party.”
The reality show (8 p.m. Thursday) gives viewers a peek behind the scenes as celebrities watch TV and react to topical shows. It’s based on “Celebrity Gogglebox,” a UK series with the same premise.
“This is during quarantine,” Raven-Symoné, 34, tells The Post. “It doesn’t involve a whole bunch of traveling or cars…this is home. It’s not curated, which is why I really wanted to do it — because I love watching television. So let’s watch it together. We’re all equal right now.”
The former child star and her friends, who will appear in every episode, are seen watching “Dr. Pimple Popper” and “The Masked Singer,” on which she played the Black Widow — and which led her to “Celebrity Watch Party.”
“They asked me to be on this show,” she says. “I quarantined with my friends Austin Brown and Brian London. We did my album together. So we’re watching [TV] together as friends. It’s fun. I like to watch competition shows, dramas, documentaries, nature shows — I’m all over the map.”
In addition to Raven-Symoné, celebrities featured on “Celebrity Watch Party” include Rob Lowe; Robert Herjavec (“Shark Tank”) and his wife Kim; rappers Master P & Romeo; the Osbournes (Sharon, Ozzy and Kelly); Reggie Bush; and Tyra Banks.
Raven-Symoné, who co-hosted “The View” for one season (2015-16), is best-known for “The Cosby Show,” “That’s So Raven” and its spinoff, “Raven’s Home.” She says fans recognize her for all of her different roles, which also include movies (“Dr. Doolittle,” “The Princess Diaries 2”).
“It depends on where I am, which is really awesome.” she says. “It means that I’ve been here for a while, and I’m very lucky.”
The celebrities on “Watch Party” did not use equipment at home to tape themselves. In order to observe social distancing necessary during the coronavirus pandemic, the show’s production crew set up cameras while Raven-Symoné, Brown, and London waited in a different room.
“They set everything up, Lysol-ed it down… and then we came up and lived our life, watched television, said ‘Thank you, goodnight’ and chilled,” she says. “It all happened in a day. It was like the easiest set up ever! I’ve done a lot of [genres] of television. It’s amazing to me that this is what television has come to, at this moment in time in our lives And I’m a part of it. This is an awesome experience.
“Who knows what could happen in the future?”
While TV onscreen for “Celebrity Watch Party” is more low-key than her acting or singing career, Raven-Symoné says she appreciated the opportunity to share her personality.
“The fact that I’m in my own space with my friends and you’re watching it with me — and there’s not 15 people from lighting standing around — it felt more personal,” she says. “And therefore you got more of who I am. That’s what I like most about it.”
